KHWP’s practical volunteer programme runs all year round every Wednesday and Thursday on various sites in and around the Tunbridge Wells area. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to get involved, no experience or training is required. Under 16s can volunteer if accompanied by an adult.

Our volunteer tasks range from coppicing, hedge laying, tree planting and woodland management in the winter, to survey work, meadow management, fencing, and step and boardwalk construction in the summer. And much more.

All task days run from 10am to 3pm with tea and lunch break in between.

What you will need:

Old clothes and sturdy footwear (Please let us know in advance if you wish to borrow some steel toe capped boots)
A packed lunch and water bottle
Appropriate clothing for the weather (eg waterproofs in the winter and hats in the summer)
We provide:

All tools, gloves, and training given by our qualified countryside staff
Tea, coffee and biscuits
All KHWP staff are outdoor first aid trained

No skills required! We provide all tools and training for the sessions. just a passion for the outdoors

We wouldn't be able to manage these beautiful landscapes without the help from the volunteers. We offer drinks and biscuits at break and lunch and time for you to be out in nature and meet other interesting people.

Volunteer Centre  Duke of Edinburgh Award role description

All volunteers under 16 need a parent or guardian with them. Due to the nature of our work most opportunities are mid week but we work on a drop in type volunteering so attendees are welcome during school holidays.

This organisation has the responsibility to have policies and procedures in place to support young people.

We ask that if you or a member of your household are ill to not attend any sessions KHWP Procedures currently in place- *minimising contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend our settings *cleaning hands more often than usual – wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with running water and soap and dry them thoroughly or use alcohol hand rub or sanitiser ensuring that all parts of the hands are covered *ensuring good respiratory hygiene – promote the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach
