What you will be doing

General Duties:
• Provide a high standard within the kitchen
• Assist in the preparation and serving of food to a high standard
• Store food correctly
• Adopt a clean-as-you-go policy
• Wash up equipment
• Hair coverings provided must be worn whilst working with food
• Hands must be washed before starting work and each time the kitchen is entered and when undertaking certain tasks under guidance form the person in charge
• No jewellery including watches or nail varnish to be worn whilst on duty (wedding bands excluded)
• Use colour coded boards during food preparation (see chart in kitchen)
• Ensure all Health and Safety rules are observed and be aware of own responsibility for your own and others safety
• Follow catering regulations and maintain a high standard of personal care in the catering unit

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold
