NHS - 0-19 Team Clinic Volunteer

Our 0-19 team support the health and wellbeing of children and their families though the Healthy Child Programme to ensure that children have the best start possible in life. This includes monitoring the development of children to ensure that they are meeting key milestones.

This volunteer role is currently available in Bedford (Monday, Tuesday, Friday), Stotfold (Wednesday mornings) and Biggleswade (Friday mornings). Volunteers will support the 0-19 team at clinics such as child development review clinics.

Volunteers will be asked to:
Help to set up the clinic waiting area with toys and resources for families.

Welcome families to the clinic in a friendly and courteous manner.

Chat to parents and children, including keeping children entertained by playing with the toys, while they are waiting for their appointment.

Support parents to complete health questionnaires on arrival if they have not done this.

Signpost parents to appropriate resources recommended by the 0-19 team.

Clean toys between appointments / at the end of the clinic and ensure they are put away safely, ready for the next clinic.

Clean scales between patients so they are ready for growth monitoring.

Friendly and approachable. Compassionate, patient and non-judgemental. Excellent communication skills and comfortable interacting with families and young children. Volunteers will need to undergo recruitment checks in line with NHS Employers recommendations - right to work and ID checks, DBS check, references and occupational health screening, as well as complete annual mandatory training.

Volunteers can choose a session from the following: Monday, Tuesday, Friday - 9.15am-12.00pm or 12.45pm-2.45pm - Bedford. Wednesday - 9.15-10.45am - Stotfold. Friday - 9.00-11.00am - Biggleswade.
