Companionship & Emotional Support:
• Spend time with clients, offering a listening ear and emotional presence.
• Engage in meaningful conversations or quiet companionship based on client preference.
Practical Support:
• Assist with basic needs such as distributing hygiene kits, warm clothing, or meals.
• Support clients in navigating services (e.g., attending appointments, filling out forms).
Advocacy & Inclusion:
• Promote dignity and respect for all clients, regardless of background or circumstance.
• Help identify barriers to care and communicate client needs to staff.
Hospice-Specific Support:
• Provide comfort to individuals in end-of-life care, including reading, music, or gentle presence.
• Support families and caregivers when appropriate.
• Homeless Health Outreach:
• Participate in mobile health outreach or drop-in clinics.
• Help create a welcoming, trauma-informed environment.
Skills & Qualities:
• Empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental
• Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds
• Good communication and active listening skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Willingness to receive training on trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and end-of-life support
Training & Support Provided:
• Orientation and role-specific training
• Ongoing supervision and debriefing
• Access to mental health and peer support resources
What do I need for the role?
• Excellent communication skills to be able to communicate with patients, families and staff in a respectful and courteous manner
• Helpful and accommodating manner
• Sensitive, compassionate and tactful nature
• Good Listening skills
• Sensitive and tactful
• Emotionally mature
• Reliable and trustworthy
Requirements:
• DBS clearance
• Two references
• Carry out training as required
• Driving Licence (preferrable)

Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring

UK Driving Licence
