What you will be doing

As a tea party driver, you’ll collect older guests from their homes, accompany them to the tea party and drive them home again afterwards. The tea party will be at a different volunteer host’s home and will include older guests, other volunteer drivers and the tea party group coordinator.

Our tea parties are normally once a month on a Sunday afternoon and usually last for two hours.

Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for socially isolated or lonely older people. The warm, regular, and friendly companionship provides a vital link with the outside world from which they’ve become isolated.

We’re looking for tea party drivers who have:

Safe driving skills
Good planning and organisational skills
A friendly nature
Good listening & conversation skills
Patience and understanding
A passion for improving the lives of lonely and isolated older people

Skills Description

To become a tea party driver you'll need to: Have an induction (phone or video) Complete an ID & Driving Licence Check Provide a reference Complete online volunteer training modules

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
