We're looking for volunteer drivers to help people across Bedfordshire stay connected to their communities by providing safe, reliable and friendly transport. Our Community Transport service supports a wide range of passengers, including older people, disabled people and those who may struggle to access local services, appointments and social activities independently.
Volunteer drivers are an important part of our Community Transport team and help passengers travel safely and comfortably to their destinations. The role involves driving community transport vehicles, assisting passengers where needed, carrying out basic vehicle checks and helping to ensure journeys run smoothly and on time.
This opportunity is for one day per week, ideally Tuesdays, and we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of three months, volunteering for at least one day each week. This helps us provide a reliable service for the passengers who depend on us.
Volunteers will need to hold a full, clean driving licence with D1 entitlement, as the majority of our vehicles are minibuses carrying between 9 and 16 passengers. Previous minibus driving experience is welcome but not essential.
The role is supported by the Community Transport team at Beds RCC, who provide training, guidance and ongoing support. Full MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training will be provided by Beds RCC, along with any other relevant induction and support needed to carry out the role confidently and safely.
We're looking for volunteers who are reliable, caring and enjoy helping people. Good driving skills, strong customer service skills and a commitment to providing a high-quality service are important. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to local people while becoming part of a friendly and supportive team.
