Committee Member (Trustee)

Orpington & Bromley Gateway Club

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

Orpington and Bromley Gateway Club has been providing social activities and entertainment to adults with learning disabilities for over fifty years. Every Friday before lockdown about 60 members, their helpers and unrelated volunteers would gather in St George’s Church Hall in Bickley for a couple of hours of activities, musical entertainment, chat and (probably most important for some) tuck. During lockdown we’ve provided a reduced programme online. Subject to government decisions, the Committee hopes to re-open the offline Club on 25th June.

Before lockdown, the Club had started a process of inter-generational transfer as existing trustees, who had been involved for many years, started looking to reduce their involvement. Some new Trustees were appointed but more are needed as the Club goes through a period of significant change, especially since the previous club leader left during lockdown. The caretaker leader who has run the online sessions can’t take on the permanent role and so we are looking for someone to head up the Club’s post-Covid re-establishment over the coming months. This paid role is advertised elsewhere on this site.

In addition, we have identified that there are a number of areas where the leader and trustees need support from appropriately qualified supporters and so we are looking for Technical Supporters in the areas of IT, communications including social media, book keeping and so on.

Finally, we anticipate that some of our volunteers will not reappear and so we are looking for Member Supporters who are willing to come to Club meetings to interact with our members and generally help the Club Leader provide a safe, happy, welcoming environment. Younger people (i.e. under 18s) are also welcome to apply for roles as Member Assistants which they may find helpful for things like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Scheme.

All of these roles are advertised on this site.

We are seeking new Committee Members able to attend ten Committee meetings year and commit about 10 hours per month to the Club. Attendance at Friday evening club meetings is encouraged but not obligatory.

Committee members are also Trustees of the registered charity, and have all the usual legal duties and responsibilities that go with that role. If this is not what you want then please consider the Member Supporter and Technical Supporter roles also advertised on this site.

Further location details may be provided below.

St George’s Church Hall is in between Chislehurst and Bickley Stations, on the 162 and 269 bus routes
