What you will be doing

Greener and Cleaner are looking for volunteer Community Gardeners to help maintain our community allotment.

TASKS MAY INCLUDE

Gardening: planting, pruning, harvesting, regular watering and other manual gardening jobs.
Assisting: coordinating the growing schedule with the project manager and help with other general tasks.
Sharing skills: helping drop-in visitors by answering questions and sharing tips.
Optional help: leading sessions with local people and teaching them how to grow in an eco-friendly way.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Gardening or propagation experience (desirable)
Keen to learn and share knowledge about growing fruit and vegetables in an eco-friendly way (desirable).
Enjoys working as part of a team (desirable).
Comfortable working in a diverse community (essential).

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Attend the community garden at least once a month.

The entrance is on Baths Road by the recycling site, next to Virgin Active. The 336 bus goes to The Avenue Beaconsfield Road. Then it's a short walk south along an alleyway to the allotments.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
