Bereavement Service Volunteer

What this role will involve
• Providing 1-1 bereavement support to individuals either face to face, via telephone or online.
• Initially supporting two clients per week, increasing to three clients after six months.
• Maintaining accurate records – submitting written contact notes electronically.
• Contacting the administration team with clear and accurate actions pertaining to the client.
• Attending 1.5 hours of group supervision twice a month online.
• Helping support events for the bereaved and/or bereavement groups

We are looking for people
• Who are compassionate listeners and clear communicators, whether honed by training or life experience or qualified counsellors who want to share their therapeutic expertise and contribute to their local community.
• Who have experience of caring/providing support for others
• That demonstrate a capacity for reflection
• Can articulate feelings and have experience of adapting to loss
• Who will build good relationships with clients, fellow volunteers and staff
• Who can work as part of a group
• Who are willing to learn, adapt and embrace change when needed
• Who are competent in the use of Microsoft applications, especially Word and Outlook.
• Able to write clear and accurate records and send electronically in a timely manner
• Who will be emotionally resilient in the face of difficult circumstances that that can affect bereaved people
• Who can follow our policies and procedures to keep everyone safe
• Who will represent St Christopher’s and our values positively
• Can commit to at least two years in this role

Expectations of qualifications/experience
• Basic active listening skills to a minimum of a one-year certificate level (counselling Diploma or working towards is desirable)
OR
• If you have no formal qualification, can you demonstrate that you have substantial work/life equivalent experience to offer?
