Sirens & Sparkles is looking for a Volunteer Grants & Funding Officer to help us identify funding opportunities and prepare grant applications to support the development of our inclusive clubs for children and young people aged 5–25.

Sirens & Sparkles is operated by Sirens & Sparkles First Aid CIC, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. As we grow, grant funding will play an important role in helping us provide accessible activities, equipment, training, free or subsidised places, venue costs and the future development of our services.

The role may include:

Researching suitable grants, trusts, foundations and other funding opportunities
Identifying funding opportunities that Sirens & Sparkles is eligible to apply for
Keeping track of application deadlines and funding requirements
Helping prepare and write grant applications
Supporting the development of project descriptions, funding requests and supporting information
Helping gather information required for applications
Reviewing applications before submission
Helping maintain records of applications, decisions and reporting deadlines
Supporting monitoring and evaluation information for successful grants
Working with the Director to understand current priorities and funding needs

You will not be expected to work independently without information or support. We will provide information about our organisation, projects, budgets and priorities and work with you on applications.

Previous experience of grant writing, fundraising, bid writing, charities, CICs or the voluntary sector would be beneficial, but is not essential. We also welcome applicants with strong research, writing and organisational skills who are interested in developing experience in this area.

This role can be carried out largely remotely, with meetings arranged online or in person where appropriate.

This is a voluntary, unpaid role for applicants aged 18+.

Previous experience of grant writing, fundraising, bid writing or working with charities, CICs or voluntary organisations is desirable but not essential. We are looking for someone with good written communication, research and organisational skills who is comfortable using the internet and online systems. You should be able to research funding opportunities, understand eligibility criteria, work with application guidance and help present information clearly and accurately. Good attention to detail and the ability to keep track of deadlines are important. Some confidence working with basic budgets and figures would also be helpful. You do not need to know everything about grant funding before joining us. Guidance, information about Sirens & Sparkles and support with understanding our projects, priorities and funding needs will be provided. We particularly welcome applicants who already have grant-writing or fundraising experience, as well as people who would like to develop their skills and experience in this area.

Volunteering with Sirens & Sparkles gives you the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the development of an inclusive organisation while building valuable skills and experience. You will receive: + Full induction, guidance and ongoing support + Practical experience researching grants and funding opportunities + Experience helping to prepare real grant and funding applications + Opportunities to develop grant-writing, bid-writing and fundraising skills + Experience working with project information, budgets and funding requirements + Opportunities to develop research, written communication, organisation and project-management skills + Experience of the voluntary, community and CIC sector + Experience that can support your CV, education or future employment + Recognition through our Volunteer Service Awards + Flexible volunteering that can be carried out largely from home + The opportunity to work independently while still being supported by the Sirens & Sparkles team Most importantly, your work will help us secure the resources needed to develop our clubs, provide accessible activities and equipment, support families and create more opportunities for children and young people with SEND.

Approximately 2–6 hours per week, with flexible hours. The amount of time required will vary depending on current funding opportunities and application deadlines. Some weeks may require only a small amount of research or administration, while additional time may be helpful when preparing an application. There are no fixed working days or times, and most of the role can be carried out remotely. We are more interested in regular communication and progress than volunteers completing a set number of hours each week. Occasional online or in-person meetings may be arranged to discuss funding priorities, projects and applications.

Further location details may be provided below.

This role can be carried out remotely. Where an in-person meeting is helpful, this can be arranged at Bromley Central Library, High Street, Bromley, BR1 1EX. The library is in Bromley town centre and is accessible by local bus and rail services. Meeting arrangements will be agreed in advance.

Volunteer Centre  Application Process

Volunteer Centre  Support you will receive

We welcome disabled and neurodivergent volunteers and aim to make volunteering as accessible and flexible as possible. As this role can be carried out largely remotely, volunteers can work from home and arrange their volunteering hours around their individual needs and other commitments. We will discuss individual access and support requirements and consider reasonable adjustments. These may include accessible or alternative-format information, clear written instructions, additional time for tasks, flexible deadlines where funding deadlines allow, regular breaks, communication by email or messaging, online meetings, and adjustments to how tasks are allocated. In-person meetings are optional where remote participation is suitable and can be arranged at an accessible location when needed. Volunteers are encouraged to tell us what helps them work effectively, and we will work with them to remove barriers wherever reasonably possible.

Volunteer Centre  We Welcome

We welcome and/or have the resources to support:

We particularly welcome applications from disabled and neurodivergent people, people with SEND or additional support needs, people who may experience barriers to traditional volunteering, students and graduates looking to gain experience, people returning to work after a career break, and people looking to build confidence or develop new skills. As this role can be carried out largely remotely with flexible hours, it may be particularly suitable for volunteers who find travelling or fixed working hours difficult. Previous grant-writing or fundraising experience is welcome but not essential. We can provide guidance and support to people who have transferable skills and would like to develop experience in grant funding. We will discuss individual support and reasonable-adjustment requirements with applicants and aim to remove barriers to volunteering wherever reasonably possible.

Volunteer Centre  Covid Safe

This role can be carried out largely remotely, which helps reduce unnecessary exposure to infectious illnesses. Where in-person meetings are arranged, Sirens & Sparkles follows sensible infection-prevention measures, including good hand and respiratory hygiene and asking volunteers not to attend in person if they are unwell with an infectious illness. Where appropriate, meetings can be moved online if a volunteer is unwell or has additional health or access requirements.
