Volunteer Counsellor

FamilyLine provides a range of support to adult family members via telephone, e-mail, text and webchat, making a real difference to people's lives.

We are looking for committed, reliable volunteers who will use their communication skills effectively to listen to and support our service users. You will be offering short-term counselling, for 6-8 weeks.

- You must hold a minimum of Level 4 qualification in counselling or accredited equivalent
- Have monthly clinical supervision in place. We can pay £5 per month towards supervision when you have an active case
- Good computer skills, with access to a computer, telephone and the internet

As a FamilyLine Counsellor, you will:
- Arrange telephone appointments with clients at a mutually agreeable time on a weekly basis
- Provide support, using a positive and empowering approach
- Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
- Make relevant and appropriate notes
- Engage with Volunteer Coordinators who will provide ongoing support

Skills and attributes needed: - Ability to quickly develop and sustain trusting relationships - Non-judgmental and accepting of differences - People-focused - Friendly and reliable - Empathy, understanding and emotional awareness - Commitment and consistency - Resilience and the ability to remain calm in times of stress - Listening and communication skills - A desire to help individuals to gain coping skills to better manage stressful situations relating to family life - To be open to challenge and to challenge others while maintaining trusting relationships - Good computer skills and access to a computer, telephone and the internet
