Volunteers will be helping us give the outside of our building a much-needed refresh. You’ll be working as part of a small team to clean and paint exterior cladding, giving the space a fresh, welcoming feel for everyone who uses it.
Each day, volunteers will start with a short briefing to go over what needs doing and make sure everyone has the right tools and protective gear. You’ll be involved in tasks like prepping surfaces, brushing or rolling on paint, helping keep the site tidy, and supporting each other to stay safe while working at height or with equipment.
Throughout the day, staff will be on hand to offer guidance and make sure things run smoothly. There’ll be plenty of chances to take breaks, have a cuppa and get to know others.
At the end of each session, volunteers will help tidy up, clean brushes and rollers, and chat through what’s been done and what’s next. This is a hands-on, physical role that makes a real difference to the people who rely on our services. No experience is needed – just a willingness to muck in, work as part of a team and take pride in seeing something transformed through your efforts.

You need to work tidily. As painting will take place on a ladder, being confident working at hights is a requirement.

The Bramley Hill Day Centre is a welcoming, lively place where adults with physical and learning disabilities come to connect, take part in activities and feel part of a community. It’s part of The Garwood Foundation, a local charity that supports people of all ages with a wide range of disabilities through education, care and practical support. Volunteering to help paint the outside of the centre is a simple but powerful way to make a difference. A freshly painted building helps create a space that feels warm, cared for and inviting. It shows the people who come here each day that they matter and that we’ve taken time to make their surroundings feel cheerful and welcoming. You’ll be part of a team, working together on a clear task with visible results. It’s hands-on and practical, and you’ll be supported throughout. No experience needed, just a willingness to help, a bit of energy, and the ability to work with others. If you like the idea of making a real and immediate difference, meeting new people and doing something you can feel proud of, this is a great way to get involved.

Volunteer Centre  Covid Safe

We take everyone’s safety seriously and follow current government guidance to help reduce the risk of Covid transmission. For this role, most of the work takes place outdoors, which already lowers risk. We make sure equipment is cleaned regularly, and where possible, each volunteer has their own set of tools. Hand sanitiser is always available, and volunteers are encouraged to wash their hands regularly. If any work needs to be done indoors (such as getting supplies or using facilities), we keep numbers low in shared spaces and ensure good ventilation. Volunteers who feel unwell or show any symptoms are asked to stay home and rejoin when they’re better. We also encourage anyone who prefers to wear a face covering to do so, and we’ll make masks available on request. Our aim is to create a space that feels safe, respectful and comfortable for everyone taking part.
