The Supporting Hands volunteer role provides patients with a life limiting illness and their carers with support, companionship and respite care in their homes and on trips out.

Could you spare some time to help families in your local neighbourhood through some of the most challenging times in their lives? If you are recently retired, not working or perhaps on a career break and are able to spare a few hours on a regular basis, this volunteer role might be for you.

Patients and their families and those who are socially isolated by their life-limiting illness will be identified by the nursing teams as needing access to this service and referred to the Family Support Services team. This role may involve practical and emotional support and assistance such as companionship, sharing an activity, collecting prescriptions, light gardening or providing respite for carers.

We are looking for volunteers across west Hertfordshire

Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring,Caring,Community Work,Gardening,Support Work,General and Helping

UK Driving Licence, Communication

Key skills: • caring, compassionate and sensitive to the needs of others • trustworthy and non-judgemental • open and communicative with a friendly nature • a good listener • flexible, reliable and accommodating.

Supporting patients and their families who are living with a life limiting illnesses gives our volunteers great satisfaction The support you provide will help our clinical colleagues focus on our patients' medical needs.

One to two hours a week
