AbilityNet has a nationwide network of IT support volunteers.

We are looking for people who are interested and skilled in computers and technology to visit disabled and older people in their own homes to help with their IT needs. Volunteers may be asked to help set up a computer system for someone, install software or hardware, troubleshoot problems or even help to change a printer cartridge or give some basic training on how to use systems. Home visits typically last 1 to 2 hours.

We are looking for people with experience of Windows, Android and Apple systems. This includes PCs, iPads and Android tablets. If you have experience of adaptive technology, that would be a bonus but it isn’t essential.

Since volunteers may be asked to visit clients outside their home town, applicants should have their own transport. Travel expenses (including car mileage) are paid.

Advice, Information & Support,IT, Technology & Websites,Teaching & Training

Good IT Skills, UK Driving Licence, Communication

We are looking for people who can help the elderly and disabled with their computer problems. This may include anything from showing how a particular function (e.g. email) works to helping resolve problems with the system. Clearly nobody knows 'everything'. So we would only send you on a call where you were happy that you could deal with the tasks required.

Volunteers have expressed a lot of satisfaction from being able to apply their particular skills to the benefit of other members of the community.

Further location details may be provided below.

Anywhere in Dacorum and Watford, with opportunities to travel elsewhere in Hertfordshire.. However a volunteer will not be asked to travel an unreasonable distance from their home.
