We are looking for parents or people with parenting experience, to provide tailored support to families with young children through weekly visits. To offer practical support, such as help within the home, accompanying families to playgroups /shopping/ appointments.
Must be able to provide a confidential and non-judgemental listening ear, with encouragement to help parents rediscover the joy of parenting.
Address for office/training is Dorchester Youth and Community Centre, Kings road, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1NJ where staff administer the scheme.
Home-Start West Dorset supports families in the West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland areas, so our volunteers come from across this region too.

TO BE A PARENT
To complete the free 40 hour home-start volunteer preparation training course (accreditation optional), further ongoing training is available on various relevant topics for supporting families with young children. Next planned preparation training is Autumn 2018.
Commit to offer 3 hours per week for a minimum of 12 months (discounting holidays etc). Completing a 'diary' of visits.
Our volunteers receive a sense of satisfaction from supporting a Home-Start family as they offer advice, guidance, friendship and support.
Although a lone worker you are part of an enthusiastic and committed team.
The preparation training course is a good basic course that some have found gives them the confidence to undertake further study.
