WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO READ WITH CHILDREN IN DORSET PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Schoolreaders is a national charity who improve children's lives by providing volunteers, for free, to give one-on-one reading practice to children in primary schools.
A large proportion of children leaving primary school are unable to read to the expected standard. In the new government figures published for 2018, Dorset is ranked lower than the national average in achievement. One of the reasons is that children are not receiving enough one-on-one reading practice. Schoolreaders helps address this by providing volunteers to listen to children read in primary schools.
We recruit volunteers to go into primary schools. Volunteers are carefully matched to the best local school for them. This is a completely free service to both schools and volunteers.
No qualifications are necessary to be a volunteer, just a good command of English and a bit of spare time each week of the school year. This would suit anyone. Volunteers say the experience is incredibly rewarding.
We are urgently looking for volunteers in Dorset to read in local primary schools who have signed up to Schoolreaders and are looking for some help.
Visit www.schoolreaders.org to complete an application form or telephone 01234 924 111. Your postcode will allow Schoolreaders to match you up with a primary school near to where you live.
