Love Soup Café Chef - Basic meal prep and cooking soup/fresh food.
Prepare fresh food for approximately 100 people on a Thursday from 10-12am at Broadwater Village Hall Goosander Way, West Thamesmead SE28 0ER.
Tasks will include:
- Choosing the featured menu which can include culturally relevant dishes or soups.
- Plan the purchase of ingredients within budget.
- Prepare and cook food.
- Ensure preparation area, utensils and surfaces are clean.
- Check out of date food and ensure safe storage of ingredients.
- Comply with all Health and Safety regulations in the kitchen area.
- Have current Food Hygiene certification (level 2)
- Identify and display allergen information.
- Work as part of a team with other volunteer staff.
- Delegate responsibilities to kitchen and waiting volunteers.
- Attend on a Thursday from 10:00am on a rota or timeshare the role. When unavailable inform volunteer coordinator as soon as possible to arrange cover.

Volunteering at the Love Soup Café gives an excellent opportunity for to showcase your cooking skills, share favourite recipes and gain invaluable work experience and training possibilities through partners. WTCA offers letters of reference and certificates of recognition for volunteers that have successfully completed at least 6 shifts at the café. Volunteers public transport (bus) expenses will be covered where necessary. Volunteering at the Love Soup Café gives an excellent opportunity to be involved in a community project working as part of an excellent, committed, community-building team.

This role requires a minimum of 3 hours and up to 6 hours a week on Thursdays. The commitment can be from 1-4 times a month in rotation with other chefs.

Broadwater Village Hall is located behind the Heronsgate Medical Centre on Goosander Way. Heronsgate Primary School is across the street (Goosander Way) Both the 244 and 380 bus have stops at Heronsgate Primary School on Whinchat Road. The bus stops are a 1-2 minute walk from Broadwater Village Hall. Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal stations are between 12/15 mins distance by both the 244 and 380 bus.

We will follow all UK government guidelines. Volunteers and guests will be made aware of the basic steps to prevent the spread of Covid including: - regularly washing your hands - cleaning your surroundings - covering your nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze - using hand sanitiser - wearing a face covering - regular testing - self isolation - vaccination Signs will be posted which will include appropriate hand washing techniques. Doors /windows will be left open when possible to allow ventilation. Volunteers/guests will be advised to self isolate if they have symptoms until testing can verify and then self isolate for the minimum amount of time suggested by UK government guidelines.
