We are currently recruiting a childcare volunteer to support our weekly Afghan women's English club. The role would involve looking after a small group of young children while their mothers attend their ESOL class at a community centre in Woolwich. The classes are every Monday from 10.00 t0 11.30. You will be provided with a range of toys and arts and crafts supplies to entertain the children. The mums are complete beginners so you will be playing a key role in allowing them to concentrate on their learning.

- We are looking for a caring, energetic and patient person who enjoys being around children. Childcare experience is preferred but not essential. - This role is ideally for people who live in Greenwich or can easily travel to the community centre. - We are looking for someone with a basic understanding of the needs and challenges of refugees and who are passionate about supporting and welcoming refugees in Greenwich. - As this role involves contact with vulnerable people you are required to provide references and complete a background (DBS) check (we will support you with this).

Training You will receive an induction and training for your role and basic safeguarding training. There will be opportunity to attend additional training or events throughout the year. If you are looking to develop a certain skill or gain specific experience your dedicated volunteer coordinator will develop a plan with you. Social events and day trips We hope as the project develops, we will be able to host and organise day trips and social events. However, currently we do not have the funds to reimburse volunteers who want to take their families on day trips out of Greenwich. If you would like to be involved in fundraising for trips and events, please let us know. Volunteer Support - This project has a dedicated volunteer coordinator who will support you throughout your volunteering. - We host various volunteer events and socials throughout the year. - You can claim volunteer expenses for travelling to the community centre

1.5 hours every week
