What you will be doing

This Christmas, we’re opening our Winter Night Shelter and Day Centre for 10 days to provide warmth, safety, and community for people experiencing homelessness — and we need your help!
As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a supportive team helping to create a welcoming space where everyone feels valued. Tasks include assisting with daily operations, serving meals, supporting guests to access essentials such as food, showers, and laundry facilities, and offering friendly, non-judgmental conversation.
It’s a rewarding and often fun experience — full of teamwork, laughter, and the true spirit of Christmas. Whether you can give a few hours or several days, your time will make a real difference.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
