We Are Listening is a community initiative dedicated to reducing social isolation in older adults aged 55 and over. Through our telephone befriending service, we connect trained volunteers with individuals experiencing loneliness — offering them a safe space to talk, feel heard, and rebuild human connection.

We’re looking for Telephone Befrienders with strong listening and communication skills and a naturally empathetic approach to join our growing team of volunteers.

🌟 What You'll Do:
Make regular, friendly phone calls to an older adult in need of connection.

Offer companionship, encouragement, and a safe space to talk openly.

Help build trust and reduce the harmful effects of isolation and loneliness.

💬 Skills We're Looking For:
🗣️ Communication – You can hold a warm and respectful conversation, and respond in a clear, reassuring way.
👂 Listening – You know how to listen without judgment and pick up on what’s not being said.
💞 Empathy – You genuinely care about others and understand the power of simply being there.

🌍 The Impact You'll Have:
Loneliness can be as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. As a Telephone Befriender, you'll provide vital emotional support, helping someone feel valued, connected, and less alone. Every call you make contributes to better mental health and a stronger sense of community.
