Purpose of the role
• To ensure the financial affairs of Fownhope Community Land Trust are conducted within legal requirements, accounting conventions and good practice
• In partnership with the Chairman, ensure the financial viability and development of FCLT .
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the financial affairs of FCLT and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice
• Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place
• Monitor and report on the financial health of FCLT.
• Undertake the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits including annual accounts for submission to the Financial Conduct Authority
• Attend and participate in Board meetings and support the activities of the Chairman and other Directors
Specifically
• Make fellow Board members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them
• Act as the point of communication with the Trust's bankers
• Regularly report the financial position of FCLT to Board meetings
• Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place, ie:
o Cheque signatories
o Purchasing limits
o Purchasing systems
o Petty cash/ float
o Others as appropriate
• Appraise the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.
• Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors or independent examiner
• Undertake bookkeeping duties ensuring posting and bookkeeping is kept up-to-date
• Maintain the petty cash system and regularly process petty cash claims.
• Regularly carry out reconciliations
• Arrange payments to creditors as appropriate and arrange appropriate signatures on payments
• Make the necessary arrangements to collect payments from debtors and bank payments promptly

Administration,Trusteeships & Committees

Admin, Basic IT skills - internet & email, Bookkeeping & Finance, Organising & Planning

You'll get the social contact and mental stimulation of working with a group of friendly and committed volunteers on issues relating to affordable housing, planning and construction. Your motivation will be to trying to make a difference for local people who need more affordable homes in rural villages.

Approx 4 x 2 hour meetings per year (usually on a Monday afternoon), 4-6 hours in August-September to prepare annual accounts, attend the AGM and submit accounts to the regulator. FCLT is very small scale and does not as yet have any sites or properties so the amount of financial activity through the year is minimal.
