Fidget Factory, Bookshop & Adopt a Teddy Volunteer

The Herefordshire Reading Trust CIC

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

Join our friendly volunteer team at the Fidget Factory, Reading Trust second hand bookshop and Adopt a Teddy station, upstairs at The Children’s Bookshelf in Hereford.

This community space is run by The Herefordshire Reading Trust CIC. Sales help cover the Trust’s running costs and support our work making books and reading more accessible, with the long term aim of giving every child in Herefordshire a book.

You could help welcome customers, sell fidgets, books and pre loved teddies, take payments using our straightforward till system, sort donations, replenish stock and keep displays and the reading corner tidy.

If you enjoy TikTok, we’d also love help creating short videos and building the Fidget Factory’s page. This is optional, with content agreed with the team.

No previous experience is necessary. We’re looking for a friendly, patient manner and a willingness to learn. Full induction and training will be provided, with a designated person in charge on the premises and available to help. They may move between upstairs and downstairs. Volunteers will not be responsible for childcare.

We hope to expand our opening hours from Monday 9 November 2026 to 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday, depending on volunteer availability. Morning, afternoon and shorter sessions can be agreed around your commitments. Help during the Christmas period and longer term is welcome.

This role is for volunteers aged 18 and over. The space is upstairs, reached by steps, with no lift currently available. We welcome a discussion about support needs and adjustments.

Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed up to £5 per session in total, including the return journey, against tickets, receipts or an agreed mileage claim.

No previous experience or qualifications are needed. A friendly, patient and welcoming manner, willingness to learn and care when handling stock and payments are what matter. You should be happy to greet customers, work alongside others and ask for help when needed. Training will be provided for the till and other tasks, with activities adapted where possible to suit your confidence and support needs. TikTok and content creation skills are welcome but entirely optional.

Join a friendly team, meet new people and help support a local community organisation working to make books and reading more accessible. Build confidence and gain practical experience in customer service, using a till, organising stock and teamwork. There is also an optional opportunity to develop TikTok and content creation skills. You will receive an induction, practical training and ongoing support while helping books and teddies find new homes. Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed up to £5 per session.

A regular morning or afternoon each week would be particularly helpful, but shorter sessions and full days are also welcome. Sessions will be agreed around your availability. We hope to cover 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday, ideally from Monday 9 November 2026. Help during the run up to Christmas and longer term is welcome. You do not need to volunteer every day or commit to a full day.
