What you will be doing

AbilityNet have a nationwide network of IT support volunteers.
We are looking for people who are interested and skilled in computers and technology to visit disabled and older people in their own homes to help with their IT needs. Volunteers may be asked to help set up a computer system for someone, install software or hardware, troubleshoot problems or even help to change a printer cartridge or give some basic training on how to use systems.
We are looking for people with experience of Windows and Apple systems, people who know about using ipads, and android tablets as well as those who may have experience of adaptive technology, although this isn’t essential.

Basic IT skills - internet & email

Skills Description

Communication skills, access to computer and email, able to travel to meet potential volunteers, adequate IT skills to help clients, some admin, management and coordination skills, ability to work from home. Can commit, on average, 2 hours a week (but variable).

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
