Front of House Volunteer (Hereford)

Our front of house volunteers help share the history of cider and cider makers, creating memorable experiences for visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and prior knowledge. The front of house team are the first point of contact at the museum for visitors, both in person and on the phone, and are essential in creating a welcoming environment as representatives of the museum.

What’s involved?

• Welcome and introduce visitors to the museum.
• Offer samples to visitors from the shop’s wide selection of local ciders, perries, and juices.
• Use a till to put through visitor admission and shop/tearoom sales.
• Answer visitor enquiries in person and on the phone.
• Keep the welcome desk, stockroom, and shop tidy, ensuring shelves are replenished, deliveries are processed, and the overall area is well presented.
• Help to create shop displays.
• Assist staff members in the tearoom, serving drinks and washing up when needed.
• Maintain and reset the activity and sensory stations around the museum.
• Assist staff with visitor surveys during peak seasons.
• Help to conduct walkthroughs of the museum during open hours.

This role will suit you if you are …

• Passionate about local history, social, and industrial history. An interest in the history of cider is a plus!
• Welcoming and comfortable communicating with members of the public.
• Proactive and like to get stuck in.
• Happy to take part in all necessary training as described below.
• Flexible in your volunteering.
• Keen to support a local charity in sharing the rich history of cider!

All museum volunteers are asked to uphold the museums policies and adhere to relevant safeguarding, manual handling, and equality and diversity training. We uphold ‘Challenge 25’ at the museum, all Front of House volunteers are required to complete training regarding the sale of alcohol. Additionally, any volunteers working in the tearoom will be asked to complete relevant Food Hygiene training. All relevant training will be provided by the museum.

Good interpersonal skills, confidence using a till system or a willingness to learn, and an interest in preserving and sharing local history. All required training will be provided by the museum, so you don’t need any prior experience.

Any of the recommended shifts below are preferred: Friday 1.30pm-4.30pm Saturday 11.30am-2.30pm Sunday 11.30am-2.30pm
