Homeshare Daycare Scheme are looking for volunteers in Hackney to open their homes to provide support to adults aged 18+ with support needs. This might include older people, people with a disability (physical or learning), autism spectrum disorders or other support needs.
The scheme is searching for patient, empathetic people with good communication skills to welcome someone into their home, usually from 10am - 3pm at least once a week (flexible, dependent on your availability). This is to give the clients usual carer some time for themselves
In the morning, you might chat with the client, find out about their wellbeing, and more about their lives, or may play a game or engage in a practical activity e.g. knitting, completing puzzles. You'll also prepare a lunch for the client (this is paid for).
In the afternoon you may go out somewhere. These trips or activities are led by the interests of the client you are caring for, so could include a short walk in the park, tea dance, a trip to the gym or leisure centre or another social activity.
Please note that you are not required to do any personal care apart from escorting the client to the toilet.
Once you apply for this role, we will meet with you and match you with the client based on shared interests and experiences, before introducing you to the client and finding out how you get along. As this role requires building relationships with the service user, a commitment of 6 months is required.
Whilst caring for the client you will maintain a record of your clients support and give feedback to your line manager.
This opportunity is ideal for people looking to enter a career in social care, and can lead to finding employment or gaining skills in caring for vulnerable adults who have additional support needs as well as obtaining a reference.
You will be valued as a professional carer which supports the needs of our carers in our community.
