Volunteer Reader Leader

We are looking for volunteers to lead shared reading groups in libraries and community centres across the borough with older people who may struggle to get out.

Volunteers will receive 3 days of training. They are asked to commit 3 hours each week to preparing and running their weekly group.

Shared reading - bringing poems and short stories to life through live reading aloud and group discussion. Shared reading is a powerful group experience that sparks connection, reflection and discovery.

By creating space for people of all backgrounds and life situations to explore what is read in the group and, by doing so, to develop meaningful relationships with others. Shared reading promotes confidence, improves wellbeing and builds communities.

Volunteers get a fully funded three-day training course and ongoing support. The Reader already supports more than 500 shared reading groups up and down the country each week, thanks to a growing movement of over 1,000 volunteers. An opportunity to bring people together in a unique and powerful way.
