Hackney Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Guidance Service (SENDIAGS) is a statutory arm’s length service providing impartial and confidential information, advice and support to parents and carers of children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) and children and young people (up to 25 years old) with SEND.

All volunteers will undertake a training programme which includes completing the IPSEA legal training modules.

The role of the volunteer will include;
completing administrative tasks
supporting the team on the enquiry line
supporting parents/carers through the request for Education, Health & Care Plan process
supporting parents whose children have an EHCP
attending school/local authority meetings to support the parent/carer
updating and recording information on a secure database

We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to one day a week for at least 6 months. All Volunteers will require a DBS check.

Basic IT skills - internet & email,Reading & Writing

The service is looking for individuals with a positive can do attitude. The role requires good people and listening skills with a patient and understanding approach. Having some experience with working with families, special educational needs or disabilities, health or social care would be helpful bit not essential. A good level of spoken and written English.

A training package to provide knowledge of the new SEN laws, the Children and Families Act 2014 which includes IPSEA legal training modules The opportunity to gain knowledge and skills related to education, health, social care and working with families.
