Forest Garden Volunteers -Tuesdays 10-4 and Sundays 10-2

Edible Landscapes London

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

Edible Landscapes London is a not-for-profit community education project. We specialise in forest gardening – a food growing design system that mimics natural ecosystems, involving a variety of perennial plants and trees.

We have volunteer sessions twice a week, to help Londoners learn to grow more of their own food, and propagate plants to give away to local projects. We are proud to say that we developed the first ever accredited forest gardening course in the UK, and continue to run a variety of community workshops on related subjects.

Our volunteer sessions run on Tuesdays 10-3 and Sundays 10-2 all year round except for two weeks over Christmas. To start volunteering please register interest on our site by stating which date you would like to attend. This is in order to check its running (we can be weather dependent) after that you can join our WhatsApp group should you wish. Please bring sturdy footwear, waterproofs, and warm clothes.

Sessions are led by one experienced leader and one trainee. We encourage new volunteers to engage with forest gardening experience as much as possible on these days, to connect with the unusual edible plants by tasting them, and learn a little about each one.

Typical sessions will vary according to the season, often including such tasks as: propagation, planting, carpentry, composting, harvesting, sign making, and garden taste tours. We try to encourage a relaxed atmosphere, with good banter and herbal tea to go around.

Gardening

The feedback from our volunteers is that they love being out in nature, learning new skills, and being part of a community. It is a unique opportunity to learn about Forest Gardening in an urban context, and above all to have fun. Volunteers can take home anything they harvest and also be eligible for free places on some of our paid for workshops and paid assisting at some of our workshops.

Any time you can come along please do!
