Somerford Grove Health Centre is looking for a creative and inspiring ESOL teacher to engage learners aged 18+ with different backgrounds (Turkish, Kurdish, Bengali, Somali, Eritrean, Sudanese, Romanian, Bulgarian, Polish, Ukrainian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Jamaican). A high percentage of patients present with and a very poor level of English that represents a barrier for them accessing the healthcare services offered within the practice and the local community. This requires often the help of an interpreter to support them which is not always available.The GP practice is keen to offer free English lessons as an integrative support for those patients whose first language is not English with the aim of enabling them to acquire useful life skills, live a more independent life and to integrate in the community.As an ESOL teacher you’ll deliver engaging and inspiring face to face lessons around life skills to ensure learners are gaining a positive learning experience, all members of the group are respected, able to participate and feel included. This is a great opportunity for those who just gained an ESOL certificate and are looking for teaching experience. Experienced teachers are also welcome to apply. You will receive practical support during your volunteering like regular supervision, trainings and a reference.

Applicant will need to be a qualified English teacher or on an teaching English course aiming to gain a formal certificate.
