Volunteer Coach

KEEN London

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

KEEN London is a registered charity that runs activity sessions for children and young adults with learning, behavioural and physical disabilities. Our vision is that every child has the chance to enjoy games and leisure activities and none are left behind due to disability.

We provide free games and activity sessions with one-to-one support for children with additional needs and disabilities.

Volunteer Coaches are needed to help out at our weekly activity sessions, taking place in Hackney. You’ll work closely with the children we support (our 'athletes'), ensuring that they can access everything the session has to offer, and that they’re having fun at the same time!

Asa Volunteer Coach, you will:

Help our athletes access the fun and games that the session has on offer. Our athletes have a wide variety of needs, interests, and personalities. You’ll tailor your support so that the athlete(s) you’re working with can engage fully with the session, and have fun while they’re doing it.

Support athletes in achieving their goals. At KEEN we want to motivate all our athletes to achieve their full potential. You’ll help our session coordinators develop individual goals for the athletes, track their progress, and give them lots of praise and encouragement along the way.

Get moving! At KEEN we believe that exercise and physical activity is for everyone, regardless of ability. We want our athletes to have a great time being active, making friends, and trying new things - and we want you to join in with them!

Have fun! Our athletes love working with energetic and enthusiastic people, and we will ensure that all of your effort and hard work will be rewarded with a great time.

No prior experience working with children is needed for the role - we're just looking for energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! Sessions are run buy experienced Service Coordinators, who are there to support you in your volunteering .

We offer initial training and ongoing 'Volunteer Skills Sessions', including autism awareness and behaviour management, to help you support our athletes in the most effective way.

We ask that volunteers commit to attend at least 2 sessions a month for a minimum of 6 months.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer with KEEN London please register your interest and we will be in touch!

Volunteer applications from people with disabilities/men/LGBTQ+ people/people of colour are especially welcomed.

Volunteers do not need any specialist skills or experience working with children, but will need lots of enthusiasm and energy, as well as good communication and team-working abilities.

We offer full training and support to our volunteers, with opportunities to attend extension training in areas such as Autism Awareness, Makaton and Behaviour Management. The sessions are also an excellent way to develop skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving, and to develop an understanding of working with children and disability. We offer regular social events for volunteers and recognise our long term volunteers with t-shirts and badges, as well as advance sign-ups for popular events.

We ask for a minimum attendance of 2 Saturdays a month, 10:00-14:30. But you are welcome to attend as many sessions as you like! We operate our services during school term time only.
