The Hackney Pirates gives young people one-to-one attention in an unconventional learning environment to support them with their literacy, real world skills and creativity. Hackney Pirates volunteers are central to our project, and we are looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in supporting young people.

What Will You Be Doing?

- Attending sessions with young people at our Hackney Pirates centre between 3.45pm and 6.45pm on weekdays.
- Sitting with individual children to help them with their homework, reading and literacy.
- Supporting them in completing creative projects, like writing stories and plays, and taking part in group activities.

Qualities and Skills required: You don't need to be an expert, as a trained teacher will always be on hand to help. You just need to offer the encouragement and support that will help young people to focus, feel motivated and think outside of the box. Skills required: -Lots of enthusiasm! -A patient and respectful approach to children and adults. -Functional English skills. -No other special skills required, although we're interested in hearing what you are good at.
