Akwaaba is for all migrants regardless of immigration status, ‘race’, religion, country of origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and (dis)ability. Akwaaba is a volunteer-run space. We used to run a social event every Sunday where members could gather to rest, have a meal, play chess, learn English and chat etc.

At the same time as running a social space for adults, we also provide a children’s space. This space offers childcare for up to 50 kids and young people aged between 3-16. In this space we provide sports, crafts, active play and so on. We welcome a range of kids from various backgrounds.

Disclaimer - Akwaaba is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect our volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required to volunteer in the kids space and upon offering you the role we will help you apply for this.

Enhanced DBS check required and some experience working with kids and young people preferable.

Getting to join the vibrant, friendly community of Akwaaba, both the kid’s team and adult volunteers in Akwaaba are extremely friendly and welcoming. Fulfilment in facilitating the creation of a much needed social space that not only provides material support but also creates a community space often restricted from migrant communities.
