Help improve the health and wellbeing of City and Hackney residents by giving a voice to diverse communities and encouraging access and engagement with credible health information and support.
How?
• By ensuring residents’ views are listened to and acted upon across the health system
• By accessing the most up to date health information, advice and local services from trusted sources

We are looking for volunteers who live, work, volunteer or study in City or Hackney and would like to join our friendly team of Community Health Champions.

The role is flexible: you can choose your level of involvement depending on your situation and interests. Some of the recent health topics we have supported include diabetes, high blood pressure, healthy lifestyles, mental health, cancer awareness, childhood immunisations and other factors impacting health and wellbeing such as cost of living crisis, housing etc

Community Health Champion role
The programme is lead by Volunteer Centre Hackney, in partnership with the City & Hackney Public Health Team. We provide:
• Induction and NHS-endorsed training on how to approach and manage communications around specific health topics
• Scheduled online sessions to share the latest public health updates and engage in discussions with healthcare professionals
• Newsletters, online resources and email/’phone contact points
Your role:
• Share health and local services information with your community. This could be face to face to friends, colleagues, neighbours, community groups; or by email, WhatsApp, social media etc, or you could even hold an event like a coffee morning to spread the word – the choice is yours
• Feedback insights sourced from local residents regarding health issues, barriers to accessing information/support and what’s working well – either at meetings, by email or by phone
• Option to get involved to help design materials and future services

We tailor the role to your needs…
• If you get busy or have other demands on your time…you can join in when you can
• If you don’t have a big network of people to share the information with, it’s more important to reach the people who need it most
