Meet and Greet Volunteer (City of London)

MRS Independent Living

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

We are looking for a volunteer to greet people as they arrive for their exercise class at one of the 2 community centres available within the City of London and offer a friendly, familiar face and a cup of tea or coffee and to chat as required.

MRS Independent Living provide a range of services and projects for people who would like support, particularly older people, people with disabilities and people confronting mental health challenges.

Staying Steady provides strength and balance exercises for people aged 55 to 100+ who are at risk of falls. The majority of these people are over 75 years of age. Each week they get 1 hour of exercise instruction but for many this is also a chance to get out of the house and meet others.

We need volunteers who would like to greet people as they arrive at the centre, make them welcome and offer them a cup of tea or coffee before their class starts. Usually this just requires around 15 minutes of your time, but if you were able to stay until the end of the class, some people might enjoy the chance to stay a little longer and have a drink and a chat before they head home.

All the centres have a kitchen or a small tea/coffee area and somewhere to sit while they wait for the class to start. If you think you would be able to offer a friendly atmosphere to older people, we would like to hear from you.

Classes:

Portsoken Community Centre, E1 8AH. Thursdays 10.30am. Class starts at 10.45am
Golden Lane Community Centre, EC1Y 0SA. Tuesdays 10.30am. Class starts at 10.45

Caring,Community Work

Basic IT skills - internet & email

This is a caring role. An ability to relate to older people, be empathic and a good listener and make conversation are the skills we are looking for.

• Tuesdays, Golden Lane Community Centre. Class takes place between 10.45 and 11:45. • Thursdays, Portsoken Community Centre, City of London. Class takes place between 10.45 and 11:45. So the meet and greet would be 15 minutes before those times (or longer if people want it and the volunteer is able to accommodate).
