RNID offer information and support for people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, and those who support someone.

We are looking for volunteers to help us offer a free, in-person drop-in service for people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, or want to get their hearing checked at our Near You sessions at the Neaman Practise in the City of London (we hope to open more sessions in other locations soon). The sessions at the Neaman Practise take place on the third Wednesday of every month.

Near You volunteers can support in multiple ways to help us make life fully inclusive for deaf people and people with hearing loss and tinnitus. Our volunteers can support by:

- Maintaining hearing aids: cleaning their hearing aids and by replacing batteries and tubing. They can also provide tips for getting the most from hearing aids.
- Help people check their hearing: Our volunteers can help people take the RNID online hearing check through steps in person on a digital tablet.
- Informing people: volunteers can help deaf people and those with hearing loss and tinnitus find out about: getting used to hearing aids, using technology, applying for benefits etc
- Meet and greet: volunteers can welcome people to the sessions by chatting to the visitors, finding out what service they’re in need off and support them with the registration forms.

Volunteers receive a full induction and training in order to feel prepared and confident before their first session. You’ll also get our volunteering handbook and volunteering policies to refer to. Volunteers are assigned a supervisor who will provide ongoing support and we’ll also introduce you to our community of volunteers. In order to volunteer with RNID, volunteers will need to provide references and carry out a DBS check.

If you are interested in volunteering, please register interest in the role and we will get in touch with more information on how to apply for the role.
