IT Advice and Support

Volunteer Centre Hackney

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

Volunteer Centre Hackney is the home of volunteering within the City of London and London Borough of Hackney. IT expertise to help us navigate through the upgrading of our IT infrastructure – to help us prioritise and assess need, liaise with potential providers, assess alternative options, guide us through any new purchases, and onboarding of new suppliers.

Volunteer Centre Hackney is the home of volunteering within the City of London and London Borough of Hackney. Through specialised support, and tailoring our offers to meet the personalised needs of individuals, we support over 1500 people to volunteer every year, with hundreds of community organisations and community groups.

Our programmes that include community befriending, and focused mental health volunteering and employment support, help people meet their personal goals, gain in confidence and independence, gain improved mental and physical health, and new social contacts. We bring people together, strengthening communities and crossing social divides.

We need to upgrade our IT infrastructure to help us continue to deliver the best services we can to as many people as we can. These include our shared drives, laptops, CRM, external search portal, data management, and our IT support system – and we would like someone who has the professional expertise and understanding to help us through this process.

The tasks would be:
- to accurately assess what we require, involving all key staff in the process, to help us focus and prioritise considering our scarce resource and the size of our charity.
- to help us choose the best provider and the most relevant products for us, to cut through the sales chatter, and to help us communicate our needs with all potential providers.
- help us analyse and assess all offers and decide on final purchase.

The role would be time-limited. Once all agreed and decisions made, the programme of work would be complete.

Advice, Information & Support,IT, Technology & Websites

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Evaluating & Reviewing, Good IT Skills, Negotiating, Organising & Planning, Research

Excellent IT skills – in terms of understanding the language used by IT support providers, including the understanding of Office 365 and its benefits, what different laptops can do, and which are essential to run 365, the basics of cybersecurity licences for a small organisation, and for the next part of the work – an understanding of CRM systems, and how to make these work for a small charity. Ideally, the volunteer will be able to help staff come to an agreement as to what is essential, and therefore what to prioritise and can also negotiate with providers on our behalf to get the best deals, cutting through the inessential sales offers. However, this last part is not essential. The IT knowledge is the most important.

Experience of IT consultancy – i.e. working with a small organisation to help prioritise and assess need, and help with the onboarding of a new infrastructure system and support. Knowledge that you will be dramatically transforming the way our charity works, to make the working lives of all staff and volunteers easier; to be able to help get more people into volunteering as they will have a much more user friendly experience when searching for a volunteer role; and are helping our charity secure more funding that will help our programmes grow and help more people, as we are able to better gather and then demonstrate the fantastic impact we have on the lives of local people, to positively influence new funders.

Flexible. Can be done in person’s own time, over a period of roughly 3 months (estimated).
