Learn English Together in Merton is looking for volunteers who speak a good level of English. You will teach English to adults wanting to learn the language, either in their own homes or in a community setting close to their home, or in a conversation class.

We will provide full training and regular support.

We welcome applications from people whose first language is not English.

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Language Skills, Reading & Writing

No prior teaching experience is needed as we will provide full training and regular support. Volunteers will need to have a firm knowledge of English.

Volunteers may use this opportunity to gain experience if they are interested in a career in teaching. Training in teaching ESOL principles and safeguarding and other onboarding support are provided. Support through the matching and tutoring process. Extensive library of variety of ESOL materials. Volunteers get a chance to get to know and understand people from other cultures living in Merton and Wandsworth. You can learn a lot about the English language in the process. It’s worthwhile and rewarding to see how much learners progress. Being able to speak English leads to real changes in learners’ lives and their abilities to connect with local people.

Lessons are once a week and last for one hour, with at least an hour of preparation On average, home tutors should allow a total of 3 to 4 hours a week and need to commit themselves for at least 6 months following the free training session.
