Faith in Action Merton Homelessness Project provides essential services to the homeless and vulnerably housed individuals in Merton, including a drop-in centre, meals, and emergency accommodation.
We are looking for Tamil speaking volunteers to help with the running of our Drop in Centre on either Wednesdays or Fridays from 9.30 - 3.00.
The role would include:
Translating Tamil to English to support our staff to help homeless people obtain papers, housing and practical support
Helping to fill in simple forms and online applications for Tamil speakers
Practical support of the Drop-in such as helping with laundry, serving food, distributing clothing, welcoming our service users etc

Administration,Advice, Information & Support,Community Work,Languages & Translation,Support Work

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Language Skills, Reading & Writing

Must speak both Tamil and English Warm and friendly with a variety of people Happy to work as part of a team Able to write English Basic IT skills

You will be working as part of a friendly team of staff and volunteers Learning skills in support work with vulnerable and homeless people The satisfaction of helping people

Ideally able to commit 9.30 - 3.00 regularly on either a Wednesday or Friday. If you can only be available for part of the day on Wednesday or Friday, please still contact Nicki to discuss.

The Drop in is held in the Salvation Army Hall, next to the Fire Station on Kingston Road. Five minutes walk from South Wimbledon station and ten minutes from Wimbledon Station.152 bus stops outside
