What you will be doing

Side by Side is a volunteer service designed to prevent isolation and keep people active in their community. In this flexible role, volunteers are trained and supported to enable someone with dementia to keep doing the things they love. The volunteer gains a meaningful understanding of the lived experience of dementia, as well as gaining and sharing skills to expand their careers and personal development.

Volunteers visit their matched person at their home, weekly for a couple of hours at a time that suits you. Activities are chosen by the person with dementia and can be anything from just chatting to doing a skydive together!

We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months.

Skills & Attributes

Skills Description

Good communication and listening skills; reliability; empathy and patience. Experience of dementia not required.
