Young Carers Milton Keynes provides support for children and young people aged between 8 -18yrs who care for someone in their household who may have a disability, physical or mental illness or alcohol/substance dependency.
One of the regular methods of support is the provision of monthly youth clubs. These clubs give the young carer the opportunity to have a break from their caring role, meet other young people in a similar position as themselves, make new friends and perhaps most importantly have fun!
Due to the adverse circumstances that the families often have to face it can prove to be very difficult, and at times impossible, for the adults in the house to transport their children to the clubs i.e. their own disability/illness, not able to afford a car, caring for a child with acute disabilities.
Consequently we are looking for volunteer drivers to provide this essential transport thereby reducing the isolation that young carers so often feel and enabling the young carers to get the break they so badly need.
They would like the drivers to be at least 21 years old and they must have held a clean/full driving licence for a minimum of two years. Drivers will also need to have a friendly personality and a genuine liking of children and young people.
Currently they are looking for drivers from all over Milton Keynes to take young carers to the Newport Pagnell Youth Centre on Tuesday evenings between 6pm and 9:30pm.;
They would also need to have held a clean/full driving licence for a minimum of two years.
All drivers need to inform their insurers that they are volunteer drivers.
References and a DBS check will be required.
