Blether Buddies are volunteers who commit to a weekly meeting with an older ScotsCare client in their local community, going for a coffee, a walk, or visiting places of interest together. The actual activities you do will depend on our client's needs, interests and abilities.

As a befriender you will provide companionship, friendly conversation and a non-judgemental listening ear.

No experience is necessary, more importantly, you need to be reliable, warm and friendly, and able to speak fluently in English, our clients are 1st and 2nd generation Scots living in London

The impact of giving someone your time and companionship will make a huge difference to their emotional well-being; you will help to reduce loneliness and social isolation and make our clients feel happier in their situation. Potentially, you could both look forward to these meetings.

Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring

People Skills

Befrienders need to be warm and friendly, respectful of confidentiality, with good communication and listening skills for friendly conversation.

We really value our volunteers and appreciate their help, and befriending can be a very enjoyable and rewarding activity. We provide training, induction and on-going support, cover out of pocket expenses for travel and refreshments. An enhanced DBS will be processed.

Around 2 hours per week or fortnight for at least 6 months, longer if possible. Many stay involved for longer than this, only because they enjoy what they do!

Further location details may be provided below.

Louise Davies

Befriender meetings will be in Barnes and Hammersmith, alongside the river Thames. Our head office is situated in Bermondsey and our services run across the London area, Richmond included.
