What you will be doing

We’re looking for new kitchen volunteers to help prepare hot takeaway meals during our sessions. Our kitchen is extremely small - just big enough for two - so we’re looking for people who are confident working in a pair in a fast-paced space.

Duties include preparing hot sandwiches and wraps, managing food hygiene, and ensuring things run smoothly for service. You don’t need to be a professional chef, but some kitchen experience is helpful. We can offer a free Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate for volunteers who’d like to complete it.

Session times: 5 November 2025 - 30 April 2026

Wednesdays and Thursdays – 3.45pm to 6.30pm

Saturdays – 8.30am to 10.30am

There’s no minimum commitment – volunteers join a rotating team and we organise the rota several months in advance.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
