Volunteer administrative support for Boat Master

The River Thames Boat Project is a charity established over 30 years ago providing access to the River Thames to a wide range of community groups. The charity runs two programmes delivered by a small professional staff and a dedicated group of volunteers. We offer therapeutic cruises for groups who have limited access to the River and outdoor education on the River for primary school children.

We have recently acquired a new riverside home in Kingston upon Thames for our boats and our work.

We are looking to recruit a volunteer to provide administrative support for the Boat Master. The individual would work with the Boat Master to:

A) Prepare and update safety and welfare protocols for distribution to staff and volunteers.
B) Keep track of the Boat Master’s fiscal budget, in conjunction with the charity’s office administrator.
C) Manage the crew rostering.
D) Ensure that the records for reported repairs/maintenance for the boats are current.
E) Maintain and update the record of the crew qualifications.
F) Schedule the meetings of the board’s boat sub-committee (working with the charity’s secretary). Attend and write up the minutes of the sub-committee for circulation.
G) Handle communication on Town Council planning permission applications.
H) Liaise on developer service applications in the development of our wharf.
I) Assist with writing up industry standard documentation to the Maritime Coastguard Agency.

1. Qualifications – a commitment to the work of RTBP, administrative experience, computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.), an ability to work with colleagues from a broad range of backgrounds. Experience in the charity sector desirable but not essential.

2. Time – an average of one day per week with the flexibility to work two days per week during busy times.

3. Location – work can be done at home or at the RTPB office in Teddington, with ability to travel to the Canbury Gardens dock in Kingston upon Thames for meetings with the Boat Master, boat committee meetings.
