What you will be doing

Complete pre-assessment form

Record group attendees at start of session

Providing social engagement, gentle exercise and mental stimulation

Support clients during session to safely walk dogs on lead

Ability to support handling dogs of different sizes, strengths and energy levels

Scooping and disposing of waste during walks to maintain hygienic exercise areas.

Skills Description

Strong interpersonal and good communication, high empathy levels, vigilant, dog lover, calm, patient, understanding of human and dog body language, able to prioritise safety, good time management and reliable, adaptable to different environments.

Time Commitment

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
