Session Volunteer - Racket Sports (Tennis in Summer)

The role of a session volunteer is to provide support to our session leaders and coaches to help deliver a fun and safe session for our participants in a welcoming environment. Volunteers must be kind, friendly, approachable, and willing to assist with engaging our attendees in their chosen activity in a way in which they gain the maximum benefit.

We ask that session volunteers attend their allocated session(s) as regularly as possible to provide consistency for our participants.

Skill and qualities:
We know you will bring your own experiences and personality to your role, and we do really encourage that. A basic understanding of the rules of whichever sport/activity you choose is desirable but not essential.

What we expect from our amazing session volunteers:
• Welcome attendees to the session in a friendly and warm manner.
• Help any new attendees get settled into the session.
• Facilitate games by either playing yourself or taking the score.
• Engage with our attendees in a calm, friendly and non-judgemental manner.
• Make sure any equipment is easily accessed and in good condition.
• General set up and tidying up.
• Help to spot potential hazards and take preventative measures e.g. cleaning up spilt drinks to prevent slips.

We also ask you to help us raise awareness and positively promote the work that we do. We would love you to support us by:
• Positively promoting Sport in Mind.
• Representing us at events.
• Help raise awareness to attract new clients, volunteers, and fundraisers.
• Promote planned campaigns and fundraising initiatives by way of social media, interviews and participating in campaigns and events.


What training & benefits are available?
Sport in Mind massively value our volunteers for giving their time to help deliver our fun, safe and welcoming sessions. We are delighted to offer ongoing training opportunities around sport and mental health to help you develop your skills as a volunteer and grow in confidence. In addition, you will also receive one of our amazing Sport in Mind t-shirts!

Dress Code:
You will be provided with a Sport in Mind branded sports top and other branded accessories to help to identify you as a session volunteer. Please make sure you always wear these to your session.

• Make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing mental health problems and help embed the importance of physical activity on wellbeing.

Support:
The Sport in Mind Team will be behind you every step of the way and provide the tools you need to accomplish your role.
You will:
• Have a dedicated volunteer coordinator to assist with administrative tasks and queries.
• Be recognised for volunteering with us.
• Receive a regular volunteer newsletter communication.
• Be invited to volunteer only events.

Signing-Up Process:
All session volunteers must complete the following steps before being on-boarded as a volunteer:
• Complete our online application form.
• Provide us with two references.
• Complete an enhanced DBS check. This will be provided by us free of charge and must be in place before attending sessions as a volunteer.
• Read, understand, adhere to, and stay updated with all Sport in Mind policies.
• Download the Volunteero app and sign-up to our sessions and events via our mission postings to log your volunteering hours.
• Sign-up to our session registration portal.

Community Work,Sport & Coaching

A basic understanding of rules of racket sports would be beneficial but not required (the sessions are very relaxed and not formal games) Patience People skills - calm and welcoming manner Be passionate about the work we do at Sport in Mind.
