Stepping Out Volunteer (from September 2023)

Assisting the local Road Safety Education Officer with the Stepping Out Scheme in schools.

The role will require walking, interacting with children and other adults, Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants

There are two sessions that volunteers can help with, firstly our Practise Walk where the Road Safety Education Officer teaches the children to cross correctly using the green cross code, and how to keep themselves safe at all times. Volunteers can help by demonstrating good skills to the children, reminding them about what to do and helping those who require additional help.

The second session is our observed walk, on this occasion the Road Safety Education Officer has a route that the children will follow, the volunteers will be placed at designated crossing points on the route and will supervise children to ensure that they cross safely. Volunteers will use our marking grid to help with the assessment of the children and if time permits would be able to assist the Road Safety Education Officer with the assessment documents and certificates.

Full training will be provided.

helping children to learn a vital skill working with a very enthusiastic team of professionals gentle exercise can provide you with a range of skills for future employment

Practise Walk is 1.5 hours per class (up to 3 classes at a time) max 5 hour working time Observed Walk - maximum of 3 hours
