What you will be doing

We are Newcastle Community Transport cio and have been providing Community Transport services with wheelchair accessible mini buses and WAV cars for over 50 years. The current team of 4 trustees with varying skills and backgrounds are seeking to recruit two new trustees to enhance our current team.
An opportunity to use your transferable skills gained through life and career experiences; to make a difference to our local community around Newcastle under Lyme and Staffordshire.
We pride ourselves on being caring, approachable, compassionate, and reliable.
We provide affordable transport to people who find it difficult to access public transport and do not own their own vehicles. We aim to support local community participation and to promote social inclusion, also promoting opportunity for everyone to maintain health and family connections. We would like to attract two individuals who will be dedicated to promote our charity and ensure continued service to Newcastle under Lyme and surrounding areas of Staffordshire
The Board of trustees meet bimonthly or more regularly if necessary.
Trustees of our charity are responsible for ensuring:
• We comply with our governing document.
• We Act in the charity’s best interest at all times.
• We Manage the charity’s resources responsibly and maximise efficiency.
• We Act with reasonable skill and care to ensure we comply with all legislation to ensure compliance of our charity governance.
• We Ensure we are accountable to our stakeholders.
We are looking for people who have –
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship. These can be sourced on the Charity Commission website.
• Good independent judgment, confidence, and an ability to professionally state your views and consider those of others trustees when considering and making decisions.
• The ability to communication at all levels within the community we service.
• Friendly and approachable
Good knowledge of IT would be very helpful.
As a trustee the opportunity for self-growth and pride as you learn new skills or transfer your knowledge within the trustee board is immense. In the trustee role, you will be making contacts, gaining experience in various ways to expand the skills you bring to our charity. You will gain lasting relationships, experience of non-executive leadership and the rewards and pride of knowing you make a difference to so many people.

Time Commitment

This is to be discussed at interview. Trustees need to be active in their role and able to find ways to promote NCT and ensure Newcastle Community Transport cio adapt to community and economic needs. We need to also become more visible in the community. The Charity Commission for England and Wales recommends a minimum of 8personal hours per week. This can be more or less depending on personal committments.

Role Address

The Role is based around Newcastle under Lyme where we hold our meetings and park our vehicles. Ideally trustees are within 30 minutes drive of Newcastle under Lyme. Or willing to work on own initiative and attend meetings remotely.
