Weekly Visits: Commit to visiting an assigned older neighbour in their home for one hour each week. When you and your neighbour decide.

Provide Companionship: Be a friendly, empathetic presence and a good listener. The primary goal is to have a chat, share a cup of tea, and build a consistent friendship.

Communication: Keep in regular contact with your dedicated Volunteer Coordinator. It's important to let them know if you have any concerns about your older neighbour's well-being.

Commitment: Maintain a minimum commitment of six months to ensure a stable and reliable relationship for your neighbour.

Skills and Qualities We're Looking For: Empathetic and compassionate: A natural ability to connect with people and understand their needs. Reliable and trustworthy: You'll be a consistent and dependable presence in someone's life. Friendly and patient: A warm, approachable personality that helps put people at ease. Good communication skills: The ability to listen actively and engage in meaningful conversation.

Making a tangible difference: You will have the opportunity to reduce loneliness and improve the well-being of an older adult in the community. Comprehensive support: You will receive extensive training and continuous support from the Companion Grove team. Rewarding experience: You will be part of a compassionate and growing community, fostering laughter, purpose, and togetherness. Skill development: You will be trained in areas such as effective communication, empathy, first aid, and safeguarding vulnerable adults. You may also learn about specific needs of older adults, such as dementia awareness.

We ask for a minimum commitment of six months to ensure a consistent and stable relationship for the older person you are visiting. A weekly visit up to 1 hour. But this is up to you. We want meaningful connections.
