Sutton Community Transport’s provides accessible transport to the communities of the London Borough of Sutton and its neighbours, to facilitate social inclusion, reduce loneliness and isolation and give people something to look forward to.
Without our volunteer drivers, many of our members would not have the opportunity to go on outings, these can be somewhere local, like a visit to a garden centre, places of interest or future afield, like visits to the coast. Volunteers quickly make friends with their passengers. Some drivers only drive for the groups they want to, while others will take on many trips.
Drivers provide a valuable community service and can make a real impact in someone life. We provide full training and you only need a D1 licence to drive a minibus as a volunteer. Drive one of our accessible cars and you only need a car driving licence to do this.
While SCT has core administrative staff and a team of paid drivers to undertake our contract work, the strength of SCT has lain in the wealth of volunteers that have regularly driven for the organisation. We need many more volunteers – to enable SCT to develop further transport opportunities for our members – especially the individuals who wish to enjoy a fuller life in the community.
