Working as part of the 1st Cheam Scout Leadership this role is all about delivering a fun, adventurous and challenging programme of activities for our Scouts (aged 11 to 14 years). Running weekly active programmes and taking part in camps, canal trips and other nights away activities is all part of being a member of the Scout Leadership Team.

1st Cheam is a progressive ‘go ahead’ Scout Group formed over 90 years ago. We offer a wide range of activities at our weekly meetings for boys and girls in the age ranges of 6 to 14.5 years.

Scouting with 1st Cheam is all about meeting new friends, sharing adventures and making the most of life’s opportunities. We make it as easy and safe as possible for young people to push the boundaries of their own experience. Our regular meetings are held at our own Headquarters building in Cheam from where we run various activities, making full use of the nearby Nonsuch Park and with occasional trips to our private campsite a short distance away at Box hill.
We also offer other activities in addition to our weekly programmes, appropriate to each age range including for example: fun days, visits and excursions, camping, canal cruising holidays and hill walking trips.

All of this is made possible by our valued volunteers who give their time and commitment to ensure that as many young people as possible can enjoy the programme and take part.

Working together the Scout Leadership Team;
a) delivers an exciting balanced Programme for the Scout Section that supports members of the Scout section in their personal and team development
b) Motivates and encourages our Scouts to learn new skills, try out new experiences and develop new froiendships
c) Using theri personal skills and interests to contribute to running the Scout section programme by bringing new and exciting opportunities to young people.
d) Organisis and run a variety of activities, including: aregular Tuesday night programme, camping experiences that incorporate things like canoeing, swimming, hill walking, climbing, air rifle shooting, and usual an annual trip on a canal boat.

No specialist skills are required but the role requires individuals who: Have a real interest in the development of young people Have good interpersonal and communication skills Have good planning and organisational capabilities Display high energy levels Can be creative in the planning, development, preparation and delivery of activity programmes Training will be provided in accordance with the Scout Association leader training programme. Opportunity to help young people build their skills and capabilities. Opportunity to work with other volunteer adults as part of a team thereby gaining leadership, communication, planning and organisational skills.

Regular Tuesday evenings from 19.15 hrs - 21.15 hrs during school term time. Some planning and preparation on occasions outside of this.
